Together Time Tips Here are some fun activities for you and your child. Enjoy your "Together Time" by getting creative with numbers.
FELT NUMBER FRIENDS Here’s what you will need:
- Felt
- Fine-tipped permanent markers
- Yarn
- Glue
- Scissors
Have your child choose a few numbers (from 1 – 9). Cut the numbers out of felt and decorate them. Encourage your child to draw faces on them with the marker and glue yarn on for hair. Turn your numbers into "felt friends." Enjoy!
EXERCISE FUN Here’s what you will need:
- Colored construction paper
- Scissors
- Crayons, colored markers
Create 10 “flash cards” with numbers from 1 – 10 on them. Choose a card and hold it up for your child to see. Discuss the number to check that it is correctly identified. Then say, "do X jumping jacks" or "skip around the room X times or other silly things." Take turns from time to time. Have fun "doing exercises."
INSTANT 1-2-3 STICKERS Here’s what you will need:
- Old magazines
- 2 tsp. flavored gelatin
- 5 tsp. boiling water
- A small paintbrush
Help your child cut out numbers from advertisements in old magazines. Mix the gelatin and water. Use a small paintbrush to coat the backs of your cutouts with a thin layer of gelatin solution. Let the cutouts dry and your 1-2-3 stickers are ready to lick and stick, anyplace – anytime. Happy Sticking!
Rewards Your child deserves a reward for his/her efforts. Each time your child completes 3 screens a reward awaits - a star. As your child progresses and completes more screens, the number of stars grows and grows. Your child can accumulate up to 12 stars. A screen is considered "completed" after your child matches all the objects in the screen. Please note: The stars will continue to accumulate even if you decide to change the difficulty level for your child.
Help Point out each number appears on the sign. Discuss its shape and what it represents. Then, look at the scene in which the numbers are hiding. Look for the number that's the same as the one on the sign by paying attention to details. Discuss your child's choices with him/her.
