Together Time Tips
Telling time can be both fun and creative. Here are some activities for you and your child. Enjoy!

TIME CONCENTRATION
Here’s what you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Construction paper
  • Pencil or marker

Prepare at least five sets of two cards. On each card in one set write times on the hour, half hour, and quarter hour as they appear on a digital clock. Use the second set to prepare matching cards with analogue clock faces illustrating the same times. Turn all cards face down. Have your child turn over two cards, trying to match a clock face with the corresponding digital time card. When your child finds a matching pair, remove the cards from the game. If the cards turned over do not match, turn them face down again. Take turns with your youngster until all the cards are removed from the table. The player with the most matches wins. Add more cards as your child's skills improve. Have fun!

HOW LONG IS A MINUTE?
Here’s what you will need:

  • Clock or watch with a seconds hand

Challenge your child to guess how long 1 minute is. Ask your child to close his eyes, and raise a hand when he thinks 1 minute is up. Explain that you will lower his hand if he raises it before the minute is up. Clap your hands when the minute is up. Try this with half a minute and with other times. Switch places, and try to guess when a minute is up while your youngster watches the clock.

TIC TAC TOE TIME
Here’s what you will need:

  • Construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Writing utensils
  • Several markers, such as buttons or small pieces of paper
  • Clock

This is a fun game to play with family or friends. Prepare a blank tic-tac-toe board for each player. Have each player write a different time in each square in the grid. For young players, use whole and half hours. More experienced players will enjoy the challenge of including all times. Display a clock face (digital or analogue) showing a time. Or you can call out a time. When the time that is displayed on the clock is the same as a time on the game board, the player covers it with a marker. The first player to cover a complete row in any direction wins.

Rewards
Your child deserves a reward for his/her efforts. Each time your child completes 3 screens a reward awaits - a star. As your child progresses and completes more screens, the number of stars grows and grows. Your child can accumulate up to 12 stars. A screen is considered "completed" after your child matches all the objects in the screen. Please note: The stars will continue to accumulate even if you decide to change the difficulty level for your child.

Help
Select a sea creature and point out the time displayed. Discuss the analogue time, explaining the large and little hand separately. Compare this to the matching digital time.
